Acquire skills about achieving of a geotechnical design. Apply basic knowledge of soil mechanics that underlie the behavior of the soil as construction material and as the foundation soil in excavations and embankments. Thus, students should be able to develop the following skills:
a) Perform the appropriate geotechnical design for transport infrastructures and hydraulic works;
b) Excavation design;
c) Identify different types of earth works;
d) Know and be able to design some types of retaining structures associated to earth works;
e) To know and design foundation soils treatments for embankments;
f) Design of earth embankments;
g) Establishing the programs for trial embankments and construction control programs, depending on the type of earth work;
h) To know the different instrumentation equipment for excavations and embankments, and know when to apply.
